Der
Wahrheit einer künstlerischen Aussage nähert es sich oft
leichter, wenn der Schöpfer eines Werkes mit dem Mittel der
Verfremdung arbeitet. Der Maler Bill Murphy nutzt diese
gestalterische Methode, um ungewöhnlich ausdrucksstarke Bilder
zu erschaffen. So kombiniert er Malerei und Photographie zu
erotischen Collagen oder verzerrt in seinen Gemälden den
weiblichen Körper, ohne jedoch den Gesamteindruck zu zerstören.
Sein hochgradig sensibles und künstlerisch bedeutsames
Werkschaffen ist unumstritten und hat ihn zu einem der wichtigen
Gegenwartskünstler der Vereinigten Staaten reifen lassen.

Bill
Murphy was born 1946 in Hartford,
Connecticut, USA and raised on the East Coast. Murphy has studied
art at the University of Massachusetts and at community colleges
in California and Hawaii. For him, learning is an ongoing process,
the product of daily experience and years of practice. Murphy
served in the US Army as a Green Beret officer in the 70's. He has
lived in Central America, Europe, Ukraine, the Northeast US,
California and Hawaii. Murphy has traveled extensively. Today,
Murphy works from a studio in the USA. He began signing his work
i. Murphy in the year 2000.
He
moved to Ercé-en-Lamée, France from California in the spring of
1999 and remained there until the beginning of 2003 when he
returned to the USA. In 2000-1, Murphy traveled to Eastern Europe
and the Mideast. He spent a year in Ukraine meeting artists in
Kiev, Lviv, Lugansk and Yalta. Presently, Murphy is working on two
film projects, one a collaborative film, Project W from Moscow.
Murphy
has displayed his works at festivals in Laguna Beach and at the
Scottsdale Celebration of Fine Art in Arizona. His work is
displayed in several museums in USA and Europe. Murphy has
exhibited his work at art galleries in New York, Massachusetts and
California. His work has been registered in Los Angeles, NYC and
Hartford, CT. His painting and sculptures were accepted in the
1999 City of Los Angeles Juried Art Show. Murphy is listed with
the International Registry of Art and Artists, a Getty
Foundation-sourced artists' database. He has appeared on ABC and
NBC; his works have appeared in several national publications,
including Maxim Magazine. He is an art and design consultant and
has participated in the implementation of important digital color
assurance technology for the Internet.
